Striped bass fishing can be undertaken in every season, in every type of water. The possibility of catching an enormous sized fish is what draws anglers to fishing for striped bass. Because striped bass migrate from salt water to fresh water, otherwise known as anadromous, the fish can be caught in both salt and fresh water. This fact also allows anglers to fish for striped bass at different times of the year on the migratory and spawning patterns. Striped bass can be fished for in lakes and tributaries, on the open ocean or at the surf side.

Lakes and Tributaries

When fishing for striped bass in fresh water lakes and tributaries, a majority of the fishing will need to be done in the deep levels of the lake. If the bass are schooling then this is an exception. For deep level fishing, trolling works remarkably well and is the most successful way in which you can catch striped bass. Bass are particularly choosy about bait, but will strike for live baits such as shiners, shad and eels. The angler will require the use of deep diving lures that bear a resemblance to bait fish, or newly developed jigs that are specifically advertised for striped bass fishing. Hybrid striped bass are present in many lakes in this day and age, and they will give the angler a thrilling catch. It is always a good idea to stop off at a local bait shop when visiting a new lake in order to get information on what works well in that particular area.

The Open Ocean

It is a great thrill for many people when reeling in a large striped bass on the open ocean. For fisherman that are new to striped bass fishing, it is always advised to charter a boat together with an experienced crew that are aware of the best locations and techniques for striped bass fishing. Even though it may be a little more expensive to charter a boat, the results will be well worth it. A party boat may be another choice for fishermen that are on a budget. These boats carry several people on a fishing trip as well as providing all of the equipment that is needed. As the angler, it is important that you look at the boats fishing history and ensure that striped bass are one of their targeted fish.

Bass fishing is a great past time that many people, both young and old enjoy. Once you get the taste of bass fishing, you might decide that you want to venture into buying your first bass fishing boat. This is truly an exciting experience, so it is best that you get some advice, being a first time buyer of a bass fishing boat.

One of the first things you want to make sure you have when you go to get your new boat is the right kind of vehicle for towing the boat. There are many vehicles that are just not made for towing something behind them. When you have your boat fully loaded with your gear as well as gas and attach it to your trailer, you can expect to be towing over 3500 lbs. behind your vehicle. You need to be sure to get a car or truck that can take that kind of load and pull it up a mountain or a hill.

When deciding on what size of a boat to get you will want to consider the size of the body of water that you will be fishing in. In larger bodies of water it is best to go with a boat that is at least 19 feet long where as if you are going to be fishing in a smaller body of water then you can go with a smaller outboard motor on a smaller boat. You can also choose which material your boat is made out of. Bass boats are generally made from aluminum or fiberglass. Each type of material has its good points as well as its bad points. For instance, if you were going to be doing most of your fishing in a small lake then you may want to go with the aluminum boat.

You may want to go with a fiberglass boat if you want a smoother ride on larger bodies of water. Fiberglass is generally more expensive then aluminum but not in all cases. The fiberglass boats are sturdier than the aluminum and they will not be blown around with the wind as much. Before making your choice, be sure to way all the options and check the pros and cons of each type to make the best educated decision.

It may seem a bit strange to go bass fishing with a fly rod. Trout are traditionally the fish of choice to go after with a fly rod, however there are other fish such as pike, carp and bass which can all be easily caught with a fly rod. If you are interested in trying out bass fishing with a fly rod, there are a few things that you should know about.

Bass On The Attack

Firstly, it makes perfect sense to go bass fishing with a fly rod, as bass are aggressive hunters. If you have ever gone fishing for bass using live shiners, you will know how they use a lunging motion to attack their prey, swallowing them headfirst. If they are unable to get a shiner in their mouth with their first try, a bass will actually buffet its body against the tiny fish and try to stun it into submission.

Because of this attack mentally, one can understand why bass fishing with a fly rod can work very well. With its large mouth, bass can engulf bait with strong precision that is amazing to watch. To catch a big mouth bass using a fly rod you employ many of the same techniques you use when you catch a trout. Flip the fly over the water, drop it through the glistening surface and let it do its job. You will find bass are easier to hook than trout when it comes to fly fishing.

Often when watching fishing tournaments on television, would-be professional anglers wonder what bass fishing secrets are used by those who are paid to catch fish. From the first time an individual latches on to their first big fish, they are hooked, unlike the ones that they believe are passing up their offering, because they don’t know the bass fishing secrets they need to consistently land the big ones.

In reality, there really aren’t any deep dark bass fishing secrets. I simply comes down to knowing and using the four rights of fishing. That is what separates the professionals from the weekend wannabes. The first thing bass-catcher hopefuls need to know is the habits of the fish they are trying to catch. Knowing their habitat and meal times, plus the type of food they are probably looking for at a given time of day is one of the bass fishing secrets that help pile the pounds onto the daily catch.

Trees, docks, creeks and channels all are good hiding places for bass, and fishing all angles of these areas can lure the fish out of hiding. Once the likes and dislikes of the bass are properly understood, there are four things that have to be right in order to become a successful bass angler. Knowing a few of the bass fishing secrets will help land more fish, but it will take lots of fishing practice before you can even think about joining the pro tour.

Four Rights Of Successful Bass Fishing

While some may consider these rights as no-brainers, think back to the last few times that the bass were left in the water at the end of the day. Try to remember which of these items were ignored. The right bait, presented in the right manner, in the right location at the right time of day are essentially all the bass fishing secrets that you need. Obviously, flipping and working the bait will help in attracting the big fish, but no matter how well you work the bait, if the four rights of bass fishing are not correct, the fish will never leave the water.

It is always a good idea to check out the bass fishing reports before making a trip somewhere to do some bass fishing. This can help you find out about the activity of the fish and help to avoid a potential disaster, such as the one described below.

A Cautionary Tale

Imagine the following scenario: it is summer time and you have managed to take a day off in the week. You decide to head out to the lake for some relaxation and more importantly to do some bass fishing. Not only is bass fishing fun to do, but it is usually a safe bet that you will get some bights. Bass are predators and have specific feeding patterns, which you can work to your advantage.

So, you head out to the lake and spend a full eight hours there. While the first couple of hours were spent not catching anything, you let is slide because you just got there. The next two hours became increasingly frustrating as the bass were seemingly “not at home.” The remaining four hours were torturously boring and there was nary a bass in sight.

Now, imagine how you would feel if you later found out from a series of published bass fishing reports that the lake you had visited had been ‘dead’ for fishing for weeks while a neighboring lake was doing “booming business.” You would probably feel that you wished you had read those bass fishing reports before you headed out to the lake!

White bass fishing is a popular sport with beginners because of the relative ease with which one can catch the fish if one happens to be in the right place at the right time. Unlike the largemouth bass, white bass is relatively small and is seldom over three or four pounds in weight. White bass, which has the scientific name Morone chrysops, is also known as sand bass or sandies and is fairly similar to the striped bass.

The white bass has a pretty short life span of about four years but is a very active schooling fish. It is not likely that there are only a few white bass in a particular area. The best part of white bass fishing is in the sheer numbers that anglers can hook. Between the months of January and May, hundreds of thousands of them migrate up rivers and streams. They feed ravenously en route, making white bass fishing a fun sport.

A hundred years ago, white bass fishing was possible only in certain areas of the east and mid-west. These days they have spread all over the country, and as a sport, white bass fishing is growing in popularity in every state. A hybrid variety, known as the hybrid striper is bred in hatcheries which has the characteristics of both the striped bass and white bass.

The Best Time Of Year For White Bass Fishing

White bass fishing in the spring is an exceptional experience. The fish flock to the smaller tributaries of major rivers and reservoirs of Arkansas, texas and other places for spawning runs. Literally thousands of white bass gather in small creeks, dam tail waters and minor rivers. They are looking for clear waters and can be spotted with ease. You just has to cast the tackle to get a bite and this can go on for a long time! Many people use tandem rigged lures and catch two fish at a time.
