Crank Baits
Crank baits are used as either top water or sinking lures and their primary purpose is to imitate a weak or injured fish. Additionally, these bass fishing lures make a cranking noise designed to attract the fish by sound. Reel crank baits slowly and skittishly or the illusion of injury will be blown.
Poppers
Poppers are similar to crank baits, but poppers are exclusively top water lures. They make a ‘popping’ sound as they move across the water and are designed for use during hot summer months when top water stimulation attracts bass. As with crank baits, popper bass fishing lures should be reeled in slowly.
Rubber Worms
Why go through all the trouble of struggling with real worms when rubber versions make excellent bass fishing lures? The usage of the rubber lures is different than the live bait version. With the rubber lures, a ‘lead head’ is used to add weight for casting and the bass will usually hit the worm on its descent to the bottom of the lake. If it hits bottom without a strike, real it in towards the surface and let it drop again.

There is a wide variety of bass to be found in Ontario which makes it a real treat for anglers. Even people who have little experience with bass fishing can enjoy a satisfying day on any of the creeks, lakes or rivers. The largemouth bass and smallmouth bass are the ones which are most sought after here. The smallmouth bass can be identified by its lower jaw which does not extend beyond its eye, unlike the largemouth bass.
The smallmouth bass is native to the open waters of the Great Lakes and Canada’s glacier Lakes. The thousands of little streams, lakes and creeks are also great locations to go bass fishing in Ontario. Northern Ontario in particular is famous for it smallmouth bass which thrive in the clear waters of the rocky lakes, with sparse vegetation. In general, the smallmouth bass is around ten to twenty inches in length. The largest smallmouth bass caught in Ontario was almost eleven pounds in weight.

There are many different areas which will be mentioned when one tries to find the best bass fishing area in the world. In Southern California, especially in San Diego and Orange County, there are a large number of lakes which are filled with bass populations. Another area which is also pretty well stocked with bass of all different shapes and sizes.

One of the main reasons that bass fishing in Florida is so popular is the fact that there are a number of lakes in the region. In fact, the sheer volume of lakes is quite surprising. Since Florida is known for its torrential rainfall, the run off from the rain will create a series of lakes.
In addition to this, there are a number of man made lakes in the Florida region as well. Of course, this makes one wonder where all these bass came from as these lakes are relatively new. The answer here is that ducks, geese and seagulls will travel from lake to lake. During the spawning season, the feathers of these birds may end up ‘collecting’ bass eggs.

Took The Kayak out tonight on the Black Creek again, from the launch near the Genesee River. (Right behind the ARC)
Managed to get out around 5 PM, and immediately headed to the backwaters across the way from the launch. The wind was mellow by that point, but I still figured it would be better to get some casts in out of the current first.
Plenty of prime looking water over there, and I missed a hit on a tiny white spinnerbait, which I was speeding along just under the surface. No fish in that section, so I moved on.
I headed up to the section just before the Trail Overpass (two round entrances, about 50 feet wide… interesting to paddle through). I saw signs of a pike feeding near a downed tree, and lined myself up.
