This beach has now become a very popular area for Bass fishing. The area of the beach towards the river can produce some good fishing at the right stage of the tide, and can be taken on bait and lures. The rest of the beach fishes well, but it takes a while to find the right conditions to have a sucessful trip.
There is plenty of parking near by, so this is never an issue, but it gets busy in the summer!
A range of species can be caught including small pollock, wrasse, flatties and mullet in the river.
On the 4th and 5th of November I spent the afternoon fishing in PORTHLEVEN harbour.
It was a rising tide and a big one at that, good for FLOUNDER
Weather conditions were Clear skies, Bright Sunshine but cold.
Bait was fresh RAG worm.
Rig was 1/2 oz ball lead, 2 ft leader, bead and hook

I was about 8 years old and I was on holiday in Scotland. My dad bought me a complete set up for a few quid. Basic, but the essentials were there.
- reel

- selection of flies
- leader
- game bag
- shakespeare 9 ft rod
- landing net
- wellies
I was taught to cast a fly in a back road. My dad had the sense to cut the point of an old fly to save disaster

All ineed now is to raise the money. I think there is a great future in this type of Angling.
Now how can I raise that cash ……….. ?
Have a look at this video when a Hammer head joins in the fun.
I think if it was me I would not just casually sit on the front of the boat while watching what goes on!!
Shande III from Exmouth in East Devon was the first Charter boat I went on. This is going back about 10-12 years now.
Fishing out of Exmouth and having been upgraded since my first trip, Shande is allway kept extreamly clean and tidy and in top class working order. The Skipper Ian is very proud of his boat and it shows !!
I have had many great trips. Bassing off the jurassic coast line, long range wrecking trips, Skerries plaice fishing and trips to Alderney. The skipper has worked hard to find us fish and the results have been outstanding.

Well it seems that I am closer to my angling KAYAK.
I have sold for £70 a shimano game reel with leaver drag. This reel was bought for Shark fishing and used with sucess a few times, fishing from Brixham in Torbay and in Ireland
Sadly it hasn’t seen the sea for a few years so I thought why nopt sell it and realise a few quid towards my KAYAK.
I am now listing a GPS which I also no longer use on E-BAY, another step closer to floating down the River Camel towards Padstow on a KAYAK.
A Danish Angler dies after only one week because he fished in the BALTIC SEA.
A FLESH EATING marine bacterium entered his body while fishing. This bacterium is normally only found in the Gulf of Mexcio. Scientist think that it may be due to climate change, allowing warm water creatures to survive in new seas.
I took my Son fishing about 2 yrs ago. He thought I was the best angler in the world.
We had gone to a beach known as DOLLER cove on the Lizard in CORNWALL. Its a shallow rocky shore ideal for BASS. I was plugging, the wind was moderate on shore, the sky was blue. I was fishing a lure into the surf close to the rocks hunting out feeding BASS
” DADDDY YOU ARE SO GOOD AT THIS, YOU HAVE CAUGHT A NEMO EVERYTIME” he was refering to the PLUG!!!
I thought with the sea stirred up a bit today would be a good day to spend 3 hrs plugging for late BASS
I took my SHAKESPEARE ODESSA FLATTIE rod with the ABU CARDINAL 500 spooled with 15 lb braid and a handful of large plugs. The weather is strong winds, so I need heavy plugs to get out in the wind. The ODESSA FLATTIE is a bit stiff for plugging, but I was expecting lots of weed and it makes it a lot easier than the carp rod.
