My brother has brought his Ocean Malibu Two kayak down to me in Cornwall for the first sea trails! He has not yet got to the sea with this kayak, and he and I are looking forward to tomorrow when we will take his Ocean kayak to the water for the first time. The width if this kayak is huge so it should be very stable in the water.
The weather is looking good with a 3 foot swell predicted which will enable us to test it out well. We plan on doing open water tests and surf tests and with my RTM Disco out at the same time we will be able to give you a great comparison after this sea test. Read the rest of this entry »
Well we finally managed to get on the water and compare the two kayaks. Sadly we did not get to actually fish from the Ocean Malibu two, but we did put it through its paces and tested it as best we could carrying out movements as if we were fishing from it. After the men in white coats attended the location, seeing if we were OK we got on with some great testing, and we also had a good laugh and I got very wet, pushing the Ocean Malibu to its limits and beyond.

Hi there and thank you for reading this post, as over the past month we have seen a huge spike in traffic. We are seeing a massive amount of traffic suddenly coming to this site and I just want to say thank you.
We are seeing people staying here for longer, the kayak and beach casting sections being the most popular and we are in the top ten for google searches for many, many terms.
This fishing site is here for you, so please tell me what you would like to learn and what I can do to improve the site.
Kind regards

I have been wanting to get the Kayak into Falmouth bay for a while, I have fished St Antony and the actual Helford river, but never Dennis head, Falmouth bay and The mouth of the Helford. This trip was a minor disaster and I will explain why.
Friday the 8th was a red hot day and on the late evening of the 7th I decided that it was perfect for this trip. I checked the weather and tide, got my gear together but I did not research where I was going fully, and the likely areas I would fish to catch a Bass, Pollock or even a Bream. I do not know why I did not do this but read on………
I arrived at St Antony, rigged the Kayak, took it to the waters edge, removed the wheels and put them in the car, locked the car ran back to the Kayak and launched looking forward to fishing the tide up for 3 hrs and down for an hour or so.

I know you already do this and I am acting like mother here but from some body who never used to care about this aspect of fishing please look after your gear when you get home. Read the rest of this entry »
Well the weather was looking nice this evening, the tide was dropping which is not the best tide state in my opinion for fishing a new mark but I had 4 hours and I decided to go Saltwater fly fishing from my RTM disco kayak. I am hoping for some sport with mackerel and gar fish if not a few bass and pollock this season, so I have been tweaking my fishing gear for the best performance and I wanted to try out the shooting head I made from an old medium sinking line I had lying around. Just to clarify a shooting head is a length of fly line tuned and cut to length which is design to cast and carry a running line. The theory being you do not need so much line out to cast along way, hence easier to do when kayak fishing (seated). I will talk more about shooting heads another day!! Read the rest of this entry »
“Where can I find a ocean kayak prowler angler review” Is a question I seem to be getting every day at the moment, well the answer is here on this blog
ocean kayak prowler angler review If you look at the bottom of that page there are some reviews from some American kayak anglers as well.
I took a trip down to the Helford river to inspect a few possible fishing marks and get an idea of the shape of the river bed and where the strongest tidal currents were and where any food stuffs may be deposited.
This is an often overlooked part of sea fishing. Whether fishing from a Kayak or Beach casting, you can save yourself a lot of time and effort by spending a few hours walking your local beach or kayaking its length to select a few prime areas that you can revisit at a later date.

I will soon be able to get some pictures of my brothers rigged fishing kayak. He has spent the last few weeks sourcing hatches and add-ons for his Ocean Malibu 2 which I will be writing about over the next few weeks.
My Kayak despite it being rigged for my requirements still looks basically the same as a shop bought RTM Disco + with the two surface mounted rod holders just behind the cockpit. The only fixed addition I have made to my fishing Kayak was the GPS mounting bracket.
